Did you know:

When renaming multiple tracks, you can hold down CTRL (Option on Mac) and press the left and right arrow keys to toggle through each subsequent track. This can help you rename tracks a whole lot faster without having to double click each one!

The SmartTool can be enabled by clicking on the small rectangle below the Selector tool. This combines the Trim, Selector and Grabber tool all in one. Move the mouse over a region and watch it change to the corresponding tool automatically depending on where your mouse is positioned.

You can quickly copy a single selected region or multiple regions by holding Alt and then clicking and dragging the regions to where you want them. Switch over to Grid or Shuffle mode to help snap the regions exactly where you need them...or use Slip mode to move them about freely!

When holding Windows (Option) while dragging regions from one track to another, the region will stay in time. No fear of accidently slipping the region horizontally.

Did you know...
that the Inserts on the Master Fader track are Post Fader? This means any effect you add to the audio passing through the outputs will occur after any volume changes. This is different than regular audio tracks' inserts which are prefader.

Digi recommends dithering anytime you are bouncing your files down to 16 bit or lower. This is because even though you may have recorded at a bit depth of 16, Pro Tools LE/TDM utilizes 24 bit audio I/O paths as well as 32 floating point processing and mixing for LE (TDM uses 48 bit)!

In Pro Tools 7 you have the option of using the Undo Window to easily view undoable and re-doable operations. This also lets you quickly jump to a previous state simply by clicking on that edit or creation time.

Show-->Undo History

Bold means it's undoable and Italic means it's re-doable

Did you know Pro Tools was first released in 1987 and was called Sound Tools. It was marketed as the "first tapeless recording studio" (although this can be argued since Sonic Solutions, formed by Lucasfilm, created SonicStudio in 1986).

It was later renamed Pro Tools I in 1991

Did you know while in Quick Punch mode, when you press play Pro Tools is actually recording in the background. This way if you accidently punch in at the wrong spot or punch out too early, you can simply trim back the region to reveal the missed audio!

Apple+2 (Mac) or Ctrl+2 on PC is the quick key for the session setup window. This is the first place you should check when starting a new session to make sure everything is setup properly. Session start time, frame rate, synchronization settings, sample rate, bit depth and even file format is all listed here.

Before starting a recording, be sure to set Pro Tools' mixer display to "Pre Fader Metering." This way the peak meters in Pro Tools show the exact level you are recording at. If you are set to "Post Fader Metering" and have moved up or down the channel faders, you could actually be clipping and not even know it!
Then when you go to mix, set it back to Post Fader.

The most common question on the forums seems to be about the Edit Insertion Follows Play Back button. The quick key for this is 'N' and it toggles whether or not the playback cursor returns to the point where you pressed play or stops at the point in the timeline when you pressed stop.
This can also be found in the Preferences menu.

Not only are the key differences between Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered in the variations of hardware devices, but M-Powered also does not offer support for the DV toolkit, the Command 8 or Control 24 surfaces or the Digitranslator add-on. These options are only available in LE or HD units.

Despite popular belief by many non-Pro Tools users, Pro Tools LE does not support only 32 tracks. It supports only 32 voices. There is a difference.
One voice equals one mono track. So two voices can equal a single stereo track. So 16 stereo tracks would equal 32 voices.
Pro Tools LE does, however, support 256 MIDI tracks and 128 aux tracks.
